Impact: Path, Face, & Attack Angle
If you want to have control over your ball flight, you need to nail these three things.
No. 1 Basket Case
One of the quickest ways to change your club path is to practice by avoiding an obstacle. Here’s a good one to promote a draw, opposite placement of the basket would help for a fade.
No. 2 Heel Drill
The hell is great for players who over rotate the club face going thru the hitting area.
No. 3 A Descending Blow
If the ball is on the ground, you need to strike down on it slightly to make clean contact. That angle should be steeper with a wedge and shallower with a fairway wood.
No. 4 Slicers, This Is For You
This drill will help you a lot the club properly and deliver the club from the inside. An outside in path will almost always lead to a slice.
No. 5 Fades Only
Try this set up to get the feel for a leftward swing direction, and hit a smooth fade.
No. 6 No Loft Drill
The No Loft Drill helps you feel a tour quality impact position. Try taking all the loft off a four iron by pressing your hands forward. Then attempt to hit a ball with that feel. Your iron compression will sky rocket.
No. 7 Setup Vs. Impact
They are not the same! Here’s a visual of how they are different.
No. 8 Draws Only
This setup helps you feel a more rightward swing direction, which will produce a draw.
No. 9 Field Goal is the Goal
Tighten up your start lines and you’ll have your face dialed in. Here’s a great way to practice that. Move the sticks closer together to make this harder!
No. 10 Casting is for Fishing
Casting can ruin your attack angle and your impact loft. This drill will train your arms to deliver the club with the right sequence.
No. 11 The Pump Drill
This is a Jim McLean staple. The pump drill helps you feel a square club path and a neutral path. Delivery position tells the story of what the ball is going to do!
No. 12 Carve The Duck
If you want to know what a duck has to do with this, you’ll need to come take a lesson. Long story short, this helps you rehearse a high quality impact position.
No. 13 Drag Drill
This is for players struggling with hooks and blocks. A lower exit will neutralize the path and help straighten out the ball flight.
No. 14 Hinge & Turn
This is for players struggling with hooks and blocks. A lower exit will neutralize the path and help straighten out the ball flight.
No. 15 Contact is King
Center contact solves a LOT of problems. Use face spray to monitor where you’re hitting the face.
No. 16 7-1
I use a clock a lot to illustrate the club path. If you want to hit a draw or stop hitting a slice, try swinging from 7‑1!
No. 17 Solid Strike Drill
If you’re hitting the heel, do this. Plain and simple.
